The Sony A7S II offers internal 4K recording with jaw-dropping ISO sensitivity and wide DR dynamic range throughout the full ISO range.. Plus a 5-Axis Image Stabilisation system to boot!
The Sony A7S II is everything that the original A7S was, but now crucially with 4K internal recording and with S-Log3 Gamma! Up to 30p at 4K and 120p at 1080, no more dropping down to 720p (bit rates are now 100 Mbps, up from 50 Mbps on the A7S original).
Specification wise the A7S 2 features a 4K full frame 12.2 Megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor (the same sensor as the FS7, F5 and F55, yes you read that correctly). The A7S II also features the Bionz X image processor which helps it to process the data from 14+ stops of dynamic range coming in from the sensor, which gives the A7SII incredible low light and DR performance, that’s over 14+ stops of dynamic range captured in video mode, when shooting stills Sony claim to have squeezed 15+ stops of dynamic range out of the sensor. 14 or 15 stops of dynamic range is absolutely ridiculously unbelievable, that is on a par with the RED EPIC Dragon and Arri Alexa / Amira cameras.
The low light sensitivity is just as good as the dynamic range performance, capable of being cranked (most fully usable and with no noticeable noise) up to ISO 409600 that’s nearly half a million ISO! Technically this is achieved at sensor level by using a unique on-chip gapless design that incorporates tiny lenses in between pixel sites, this increases the light-gathering capabilities of the pixels / photocell sites and promotes increased image quality across the entire sensor plane. Beyond the image performance factors the A7S2 can output uncompressed / clean 4:2:2 UHD 4K via HDMI or full HD 1080p captured internally in the high quality XAVC S format at 100 Mbps bit rate.
The A7S II supports recording using S-Log3 Gamma Curve (identical to the FS7, F5 and F55) and has various picture profile options like S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log-3, S-Log-2. The new S-Log3 allows for 1300% more dynamic range than standard REC709 signals. Additional features include Zebra exposure markers, focus peaking and time code.
Frame rates are impressive ranging from 24 up to 120 fps which are very impressive and useful slow motion capabilities (up to 30 fps at 4K and 120 fps at 1080p).
Audio can be recorded in stereo internally or via external input (3.5mm mini-jack). The A7SII features a 3” 1 million-dot OLED LCD monitor and 2.3 million-dot OLED EVF viewfinder.
We supply the Sony A7S II with a Metabones Sony NEX E mount to Canon EOS EF mount adapter included free of charge.. We can supply a heavy-duty PL mount adapter if required.
