The Canon XC10 4K camera from Canon is a compact 4K and HD camcorder that shoots 4K video, HD video and 12MP still images.
It features a large 1″ 4:2:2 8-bit sensor, with an ergonomic design ideal for handheld operation and portability. Don’t let the size and form factor fool you, this camera has plenty to shout about under the hood.
It features a DIGIC DV 5 image processor and 1″ CMOS sensor capable of 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 video, 1920 x 1080 video, 1280 x 720 video and 4:3 12-megapixel 4000 x 3000 still images.
It has a fixed zoom lens with 10 x optical zoom, capable of 24mm to 273mm (35mm equivalent) at f2.8 – 5.6 maximum aperture and auto/manual focus controls.
Video acquisition is with H.264 (MPEG-4 XF-AVC) compression and in the extremely common MXF wrapper (XF305/C300) at 35 Mbps and 50 Mbps for 1080i/1080p and 205 Mbps and 305 Mbps modes (C300 MKII) for UHD UltraHD 4K recording!

The compact size of the Canon XC10 really does lend itself to run-and-gun shooting applications such as documentary and event shooting. It is additionally suited to Gimbal (DJI Ronin / Movi M10) and Drone shooting applications too. If you need broadcast quality results in UHD 4K or HD and larger form factor cameras are an issue or you need super-lightweight then the Canon XC10 is a great solution.
The DIGIC DV 5 processor is the newest image processor from Canon which uses proprietary circuit design to retain HQ high image quality with minimal undesirable compression artifacting and with efficient low power consumption / minimal heat output.
Both Canon C Log Gamma & Wide DR (dynamic range) Gamma both deliver a beautiful image that can intercut with C300, C300 MKII and all of the Canon Cinema EOS line of cameras, likewise with the EOS Std profile selected the XC10 footage can intercut with Canon DSLR cameras like the 5D MKIII and 7D MKII. The XC10 features an impressive 12-stops of dynamic range.
100 to 20,000 ISO range packs a mighty punch for such a small camera, Gain can be selected instead of ISO if you prefer. The XC10 features full manual control of ISO/gain, shutter speed, white balance, resolution and frame rate. A frame rate of 100 fps is available (PAL) and 120 fps (NTSC) so slow-motion is not an issue either!
The Canon XC10 has a great and appropriately sized 3″ LCD display on the rear of the camera, which features a 1,030,000 dot LCD with 100% coverage and with capacitive-touch too. The camera has all of the professional tools you would expect, focus peaking, focus peaking on B&W display, exposure zebras and focus magnify, etc.
CFast and SD card slots make for convenient media options when shooting, for still images and HD 1080p 35 Mbps / 50 Mbps footage you can shoot to economical SDHC / SHXC cards. For UHD UltraHD 4K shooting is to CFast cards, all are provided.
We rate the Canon XC10 camera highly, it provides C300 visuals in the palm of your hand, on your gimbal or drone and at 4K resolution if you need it, 4:2:2 XF-AVC which is C300 MKII territory, what’s not to like?
